Cohen is home! During her rounds this morning, Cohen's doctor decided he could be discharged if he kept both his sats and energy up all day. It was a little iffy in the early afternoon as his sats would drop to 84-88 when he was out of the crib and away from the blow by oxygen. However, after two breathing treatments his saturations for the rest of the day were around 96. This was the first day in a while that we saw a glimmer of how he normally acts. He is still fighting this infection so he tires really easy, but for the most part he was alert and active.
At 4:45pm, the doctor came back and felt he was ready to go home. I’m not so sure how ready he was to go home, as his saturation levels were only okay for about 3 hours today. He continues to have a temperature and he still isn't eating much. Our threshold for taking him back to the ER is very low, so I didn't put up much of a fight. He has two different antibiotics to take for the rest of the week, and hopefully they work this time.
We are still waiting on the results of the IDD panel, and should get those sometime next week. He has also been referred to a pediatric pulmonologist to test his lung function to see what, if any, damage was done due to his premature birth.
He is so happy to be back home, and completely lit up when he saw all his toys. When I put him to bed tonight, it was quite obvious how much he missed his own crib. He was laying on his back, humming at Scout, caressing the velour sheets (thanks for the idea Kason!), and tapping his foot on the rail. He didn’t want a bottle and after a while rolled over and fell asleep. It was a picture perfect bed time!
