Cohen had his New Baby appointment with his primary care doctor today. He has only gained 30 grams since being discharged (he still supposed to be gaining 1-2oz a day) so I have to take him in every week for a weight check. His doctor is very concerned about the rapid breathing and how it might be interfering with his feeds. She will be keeping a close eye on this and his weight. We were given his percentiles for his age (8 weeks) and he is nowhere near being on the chart. However for preemie babies he is in the 25th percentile for weight and the 50th percentile for length. He’s still pretty tiny!
Cohen will get his third and final Synagis vaccine on April 17. This is helping protect him from contracting RSV, which is a lung disease and could be very bad for Cohen. Additionally, because he is just now 37 weeks gestation, his doctor is waiting to give him his 2 month vaccinations until next month. Instead of a 2,4,6,month plan, Cohen will see his doctor every month for the first 6 months. Oh, and we also have a date for Cohen’s circumcision: April 27th! As parents to a preemie baby, our lives will revolve around doctor appointments!
