May 27, 2010: Tillamook to Newport, OR

Our goal for today was to reach Newport, OR. It’s not that far from Seaside, but we wanted to make a few stops along the way and of course, go to the Aquarium in Newport. We didn’t make it to Newport before the Aquarium closed, so we decided it was a good place to stop.

Our first big stop was Tillamook, OR. We went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and Carter about had a heart attack after seeing all the “yellow cheese.”

After a quick lunch, we drove out to the Cape Meares Lighthouse. We could not go up to the top because the light house was recently vandalized with bullet holes. There was more than 1 million in damage done and the light cannot shine until it’s fixed. John was ecstatic that we found the most perfect lamp for Cohen’s bedroom, a lighthouse, and that the proceeds would go to help fix the light.

On our way out of town, we stopped at the Air Museum. John and I are on a mission to find decorations for Carter’s new airplane themed room. We thought for sure the gift shop would have some perfect decorations….well, not so much. All the stuff we wanted happened to be decorations for the gift shop and as such, not for sale. Bummer! Regardless, Carter enjoyed seeing all the big airplanes and stretching his legs before we got back into the car.

We arrived in Newport, Oregon, late afternoon. We found a cute little hotel, right on the ocean! Cohen loved the clear railing on the deck off our room...and both boys loved the heated pool :) Tomorrow we will be going to the zoo before we continue on our road trip!
