(The new bed!)

What a fun Monday! Being in Moscow with John and Carter gave me time to swing by the law school and say hello to some of my friends before class started. (Oh, and to pick up my standings card :) ) It felt a little weird being there and not having any of the stress that comes with not only with being a law student, but just being in the building in general. While I so wish I was complaining about brief writing, or hurrying to finish the reading right before class (or in Luke’s case during class…), just being there made it very obvious to me how much my family needs me 100% right now and I felt a lot better about my decisions regarding this semester. Though after spending Feb through May with a newborn and a toddler, I am going to be so excited when summer school begins!

Cohen had a pretty good Monday. John drove me back after his noon class, so I was back with Cohen by 2:30. His nurse said he was having a great day, with no A&B’s and doing well at 24% oxygen. Then, in true Cohen fashion, he had a rather eventful A&B. It wasn’t nearly as bad as the big one a couple day ago, he just didn’t want to pull his heart rate up out of the 60’s…so they gave him a ton of oxygen and that seemed to do the trick.

Then at about 5, the nurse noticed his bed was reading warm. (Cohen’s incubator is heated to his body temperature because he cannot control it on his own yet.) They opened the holes (in his new incubator) and undressed him to see if that would cool him off. When that didn’t work, the nurse set up a little fan to lightly blow on him. And finally, when the fan failed to cool him off it was determined he had a fever. Seeing as how Carter has a little cold, I am guessing John brought it with him when he visited Cohen this weekend. The doctor was not too concerned, especially with the knowledge that Carter has a cold. Cohen doesn’t have any IV’s in or anything that could be infected, so it is more than likely a tiny cold.

As of this morning, Cohen was 3lbs 12oz…that is almost a whole pound more than he weighed at birth and it looks like he will be reaching the 4lbs mark this week! He is still really long, so his body does not have very much meat on it..his head and face have grown a lot in the last three weeks and he is beginning to look like a miniature baby…with the start of the inevitable NICU cheeks :)
